Blog #15: Revision of CATW 2

In the passage "The Women Who Died In The Waiting Room" By Jeneen Intetland, Esmin Green was a patient in a waiting room at the Brooklyn's largest psychiatic hospital. No one had bothered to check on her. She had fallen of her chair and she started twisting and turning it didnt help her get up or anything, she had died in the floor just like that. A nurse walked into the waiting room 40 minutes later and saw that Esmin Green was on the floor and wasn't moving no more. The nurse checked if Esmin was okay by lightly kicking her, the nurse found out Esmin had died. Esmin Green was in a room with security cameras, nobody had bothered to check on her or how she was doing. It was a surprise to them for how she died, the City Medicals had examined her blood and found out that she had blood clots. This is what lead to her death.

The quote that i chose to do was, "public hospitals across the country have struggled to provide actue psychiatric care to the poor and uninsured since the early 1960's". I chose this quote because some how i feel as if brings it all together. There are tens of millions of people that need treatmennt, with only 50,000 beds across the country. There are poor, uninsured, undocumented people that have health problems and alot have chronic conditions, if they dont have what is needed like insurance or money they can't be treated.

Another reason for why I chose this quote was because if they were able to provide psychiatric care to the uninsured, poor, and undocumented Esmin Green would not have died, she would of gotten cared for, and nurses will check on them. Even though the health care can't be provided for every one I understand why they would only go for the people that are insured or have money. The doctors need to get paid and medication and supplies cost money.

I wonder, would it of made a difference if Esmin had money or insured? would they of taken care of her faster if she did. I think that someones health is something that you should not play with because anything could kill you and if you are able to help someone you should. Insurence or health care is something that should get offered to every one no matter how wealthy they are or if they are poor.

Esmin Green died in a waiting room. If the nurse or anyone would of seen her when she was dying ,they would of probably helped her right on the spot. They would of worried about her insurance or how she would pay but later after she is safe.

Blog 7: The Heroic Choices in The Matrix

In the movie the matrix, the main character neo is put through different choices.  He has to make a right choice he isn’t informed of what will be the result but he just does what he thinks is right. I think that in the movie matrix neo would be considered a hero because when he was released from the matrix and brought into the real world he wasn’t feeling conferrable and he just wasn’t sure of what was happening. What I think makes neo a hero was that looked out for every one in his group I remember in the movie when neo had gone into this building and had déjà vu. Every body worried about saving him but when they tried to get away morpheus stayed back to try and hold the bad guy so they didn’t get to neo but even though neo was safe neo wanted to go back and help him. I don’t really remember many examples of what neo had done but there was this one time when neo had gotten into a helicopter tied him self up from the waist and went to morpheus rescue with trinity. Some choices that neo was put through were that in the beginning he had to pick if he took either the red pill or the blue pill. Neo didn’t really have many choices it was more of decision already made for him. When neo and his group were in the matrix, he would always let them go ahead to make sure that they are okay. i think that the reason neo would take more of a risk was because he didn’t really know much about the matrix or the real world so if anything was to happen to him. His group will still be able to continue nothing bad happened to him because he was the one.

Blog 6: Response to "I Know the Truth..."

In the reading “I know the truth so don’t bother me with facts” the author explains to us, why should we believe what all the people tell, us just because they are in a higher position than us it doesn’t mean that everything that they will tell you is right about our economy. They say that some astronauts have gone the moon and that they stayed up there. They told us that there will not built a cultural center where the world trade center was destroyed but that it will be built a distance away from it. They had gathered 750 people that knew something about the cultural central and then to see if they believed one of the rumors about it then they had shown them evidence to see if they would change their mind.

I think that the only reason people believe something is because they don’t really think about it for them self’s. They just go with the crowed, some of the people that believe in something will deny everything else that people show them even if you are to show them evidence, they will not care they will still believe in what they want. The government tells us a lot of things, but how many of them are real? People shouldn’t believe anything unless they see some evidence for them self’s. Some of the things that the government of some one in higher authority tell us aren’t true because every one must have a secret, so there are people that lie top us about something so we don’t get shocked in other words they might try to protect us by lying to us but I think that it is wrong for them to try and hide something when it comes to our economy.

I think that the author tries to tell us what we would believe if we were to be in front of the facts would we still believe in what we say or would we start to change our mind about our thoughts

Blog 16: Type CATW practice 3

The passage "How to Do One Thing at a Time" tells us that people who do one thing at a time have a better chance of doing an activity correct, rather than people who multi-task. In stand for university they experimented. They gathered a group of people, and split them up. One group spent 30 minutes chatting, writing a short essay, and making a play list; these are the multi-taskers. The other group did the same things but instead of doing it all at the same time, they spent 10 minutes for each thing. Their results were that people did a better job by doing one thing at a time instead of doing everything at once.

I do agree that it’s better to do one thing at a time instead of multi-tasking. From personal experience there was this one time when I had to do my h.w help my brother with his h.w, and cook. As a result my h.w was wrong my brother missed 2 questions and the food was over cooked. I’m positive I would have done everything better, if I took my time and focused on each thing at a time. I also agree that multi-tasking isn’t the right thing because my friend tries at times but ends up barely finishing anything.

The authors main idea of the passage was to inform us that multi-tasking prevents out brain from been able to do anything correctly.

Blog 14: Learning from another ENG 99

From the three posts that I read, I found Post 3 to be in more of a proper form. I do think that post 3 is the best out of these three because in the beginning of her essay she summarizes  it and she doesn’t give her opinion, in her first paragraph she explain what the idea is "Reality T.V"  and she talks about what they want in order for people to be "Reality TV".  In her second paragraph she paraphrased a quote and I think she did a good job because she explained it well. In her third paragraph she related the reading to her life. She had also done a decent conclusion, if it was up to me I would have passed this because out of all three this one was the passing one. I don’t think I did learn anything from these posts; I would rank this one a 6 out of 10. I would pick Post2 to be the second best. In the beginning of his summary he gave his opinion correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think we are supposed to do that. I don’t think I have much to say about this post but I don’t know if he is agreeing with the reading or against because in one paragraph I think he is saying it’s okay to go and try to be in "Reality TV" and in the other one he says it's a risk for future doctors etc. so I don’t know if he is agreeing or disagreeing. But in general I don’t think I would pass this, I didn’t learn anything knew, and I would rate it a 4 out of 10. Finally I would pick Post3 the last post, the reason was because he was just summarizing this paragraph one after the other. Also because he gave his opinion in the summary and you’re not supposed to do that. The way that he has it setup didn’t really get my attention I kept getting lost.  I don’t think I learned anything new. I would rate these 4 out of 10.

Blog 12: Consequentialism

In the movie "Gone Baby Gone" there is a situation, The police captain, Remy, and Lionel had taken Amanda away from her mom. Remy and Lionel had given Amanda to the police captain so his family and him could take care of her. People thought she got kidnapped but Amanda was taken away from her mother Helene because she was a drug addict . Helene didn't take care of Amanda, would go out to get high and not care about who takes care of her daughter. Patrick and Angie were the detectives that got hire to solve the case about amanda who kidnapped her and where she was.
Patrick and angie didn't know that the captain had taken her. Angie saw what type of person Helene was, and when they fouund out that the captain had taken her, Angie agreed that it would of been better if Amanda stayed with the captain and be sure that amanda was safe. at the end of the movie Patrick told on the captain because he promised Helena he would get her kid back . Helena kept on saying how she would change if she got Amanda back but at the end she didn't change she was the same as before. Patrick would go check on them and saw that Amanda would of been better of with The Captain.  Patrick started to change his mind about what he had done, angie left him because she didn't agree with what his decision to make take Amanda back to her mom, she wanted Amanda do be with the captain anything except the mom.
In the movie they show us a bit of Ethical absolutism and Consequentialism.
Ethical Absolutism is when you belive that when something happens there is no good side or bad side to it . If you belive in ethical absolutism you would think of hitler and osamas death as just a murder not something to be happy about. You wouldn't think of it as justice . murder is murder a lie is a lie it doesn't matter because if you killed some one you just killed them you didn't do it for a good cause . if you lie you lied you dont lie for a good cause or a bad cause. this is what patrick believes in it was wrong for them to take Amanda and lie about it she belongs with her mom.

Consequentialism is when you do something for a good result that helps out others. when you are little your parents tell you lies about santa: etc but they don't do it to be mean to you they do it so that you can be happy and they get the result they want your happyness. if you believe in Consequentialism you believe that hitler and osamas death was a good thing because they wont harm more people. this is what The police Captain , Remy, Angie and Lionel believed in they took Amanda from her mom so she could be safe and have a good future, they didn't want her to end up like her mom . so Consequentialism is what you do your way to get the results you want.

I think that the movie shows more of a Consequetialism side because  in the movie Patrick shot the guy that raped and killed little kids, he did it because he wanted to make sure the guy won'tdo it anymore. I think that patrick has two sides to him self . Remy as well he had planted cocaine as evidence because he had seen some parents house, and they were addicts but their kid was good he was neat, smart and decent. he used that cocaine as evidence to get the parents taken away and the kid to go to a better place. That also goes for The Captain ,Angie and Lionel they had taken amanda from her mom no matter if it was wrong . They wanted whats they thought was good for her

I think its just what way you view things.

In the passage "The women who died in the waiting room" by jeneen interland, Esmin Green had been in a waiting room at Brooklyn's largest psychiatic hospital, no body was with her at her time in need when she had hopelessly fallen of her chair. It was a surprise to them for how she had died, the city medicals had examined her blood and found out that she had blood clots in her legs which had been the cause to her death. psychiatric care was something that was hard to provide for poor, uninsured people in the hospital across the country. alot of people that are poor uninsured and undocumented have trouble with their health alot of people have chronic conditionns but because they don't have the money they can not be treated. there are tens of millions of people that need treatment with only 50,000 beds across the country.
I feel as if the authors main idea/point is when she says "public hospitals across the country have struggled to provide acute psychiatric care to the poor and uninsured since the early 1960's i think this is the mian idea because if they were able to provide psychiatric care for the poor esmin Green would not of died. for another reason i think that was the main idea was because if they offered that care for the poor , security and nurses might actually keep an eye on them see if they are okay

Blog 10: Hero and anti-hero in the movie Hero

In the movie "hero" there are two main characters Bernie LaPlante and John Bubber, Bernie LaPlante is not heartless but he is greedy he has two sides to him self he's a liar and tries to get money anyway possible he steals and sells, for him to be caring and giving is something that he doesn't always do. John Bubber is more of a giving caring person but he is a liar too, most of the time he will care for others. I dont know who i would call a hero because i think it depends from what point of view you see it from.
In some way Bernie LaPlante is a hero because we see how he is just driving down the road going to pick up his son to go to the movies and when he is going to cross a bridge he sees that a plane comes crashing down, he got out to see what had happend and heard that people were yelling screaming asking him to help them open the door Laplante didnt want to help at first but he thought again, so he did but first he had taken of his shoes because he said the cost him $100, then walked into the water to help out. when Laplante helped open the door people started to come out of the plane some little boy was crying saying his dad was in the plane (this is where his hero side kicks in), Laplante had gone into the plane with out thinking twice. Laplante went in there looking for one person and while trying to find the boys dad he kept on seen more poeple and he was just pulling them out one after one. Laplante didn't find the kids dad so he thought he died inside because the plane exploded every one had gotten out of the plane in time. He had save 64 people. After he helped  he just disappeard no interview or nothing. This is what makes me think that Laplante is a hero.
Jhon bubber is a hero too because he was in the vietnam war and he had helped carry out alot of his troops when they got shot, he had carried them to safety. In the movie I didn't really see jhon bubber be much of a hero I saw him be more of a romodel to do good to lend a hand and help out the less fortunate That is the only good thing about that. Jhon bubber is a liar too because he knows that he didn't help out the people from the plane crash but because Laplante told him what happend Bubber was the one that went to collect the reward because they had been looking for the hero who saved the passanger. Laplante lost one of his shoes when he helped out the people he was mad that he lost it so gave the other shoe to bubber so bubber used that as evidence that it was him even though it wasn't true. So this is what makes bubber a liar.
So I think that Bernie Laplante is the hero in this movie he saved people from a plane crash and then at the end of the movie he helped out a girl that fell into the lion cage.

Blog 9: Type and post CATW practice 1

I think that learning, knoledge, school should be something that is available for everyone it shouldn't matter where you are frpm, it should be open to every one the article tells us that in "illinois" they had taken a vote to see if they would allow "young people who are in the u.s illegally to be eligable to pay in-state tuition at colleges and university in "Illinois". The vote turned out to be more of a yes than a no the vote was 112-4 , when they had agreed on it, a bill had been passed that would allow then to attend colleges and universities and having to pay instate tuitions as well.

If a student has been living in the U.S. Illegally i dont think they would be paying cheap they would of been paying $13,906, this is the out of state rate but because they had a vote , the students will only pay $5,302.

even if people that are born here do have equal rights it shouldnt be a reason to put inmigrants down, sure just because they are born here you got everything easy for you. but some people that are born here dont take advantage of what they have . even if some laws are  unenforced every one should get the opportunity to study.

there are people who are living in the u.s. illegaly that pay taxes and the goverment is more than happy to take their money away so why cant they allow them to attend colleges

Blog 8: Summary of "Red Pill or Blue Pill: Is Ignorance Bliss?"

In the article the authors compares diffrents stories that have the same meaning in some way. For example the author had compared "the matrix" , "alices adventures in wonderland , and "the allegory of the cave. The author takes a small piece from each of these stories and compares it, for example in the movie matrix morpheus offers neo two pills a red pill and a blue pill in this case one pill will allow him to see what the real world is and what he has been living in the other pill would allow him to forget about everything that happend.
Neo gets questioned by morpheus and in "alices adventures in wonderland" alice gets questioned by a catepeller. The questions they get asked are some what similar as in who they are. The other story that they compare it too was " the allegory of the cave" this part can be compared more to the matrix because in the "allegory of the cave the prisoners get chained up in a cave an face the walss not allowed to see the opening of the cave and they live an illusion for most of there life, when they are set free they don't know what to believ or what is what. In the matrix neo had been living a lie as well he wasn't a prisoner physically but he was a prisoner mentally.
Neo was plugged into the matrix which was a comouter program that makes every feel real. But when he gets unplugged from the matrix he doesn't know what to believe anymore. Just like in "the allegory of the cave" when the prisoner gets released from the cave he doesn't know what to belive anymore. In "alices adventures in wonderland" she wakes from up from her dream.

Blog 5: Review summary of the allegory of the cave

In the reading “Allegory of the Cave” by Plato, Plato had given a situation in which two men had been having a conversation. The reading includes two men, Socrates and Glaucon, Socrates had been talking to Glaucon about a situation that people had been taken from their homes during their childhood and thrown into caves chained up, from their necks and ankle they had been restricted movement and were not able to turn around and had the heat of the sun hitting their back, the only thing that they could have done was face the wall. They never saw the entrance of the cave they were only able to see the shadows of objects. People would be walking behind them with cut out shapes of animals etc.  From the outside of the cave, allowing the sun to make a shadow of the shape. They prisoners never saw any type of animals or anything and when they the shadow of a cow and how it sounded they would just see a big circular shape. Socrates told Glaucon that what the prisoners thought was real was just an illusion.
The prisoners had been living in this illusion and they didn’t know because they thought that everything that they had been seen while been in the cave was real. After a while the people that had kept the prisoners in the cave for so long had released them at a point in their lives and showed them the objects that they had seen while they were in the cave. They had been going around and showing them different things to see if the prisoner recognized it but they would deny it because in the cave all they saw was shadows. After a while they realize that they have been living in a lie for their lives. When the prisoner realizes that all the people that are still in the cave are living in that same lie he was he feels bad for them.
What I think that the author tells us is that there are so many ways to view something it’s just up to you and where you have been for most of your life, to believe in what they say.

Blog 4: "The Allegory of the Cave"

In The reading “Allegory of The Cave” the author tells us that there had been prisoners that had been thrown into a cave since their child hood. They had been chained up from their ankles and their neck so they were restricted from turning and moving around. The prisoners were chained up and forced to look at the wall only and were not allowed to see the opening of the cave, they hadn’t see the light of the sun for a long time. People would be walking behind them and they would have shapes of animals etc from the outside of the cave allowing the sun to give a shadow the prisoners thought that the shadow they saw was the real thing. Because they were not educated and did not know what was the real world they had been living in this illusion for a long time. For the prisoners a cow was just a round shape because that is what the shadow showed them? After a while the people that had kept the prisoners in the cave for so long had released them at a point in their lives and showed them the thing. They had gone around telling them what a real cow would look like and they would deny it because in the cave all the saw was shadows and for them a cow is just a big circular shape. When the prisoner’s instructor had been pointing at things the prisoner didn’t recognize any of it at all because for him that’s a lie and what he saw in the cave was real. The author just tells us that the prisoners in this reading had been living in an illusion for most of their lives and it is hard for you to accept what you are not used to.

Blog 3:“I Know the Truth, so Don’t Bother Me with Facts”

The reading tells us that even thou people of a higher authority tell us something, it doesn't mean that its true.when ever you tell someone anything with false information about real events they would believe it and then other people would hear that information make rumors about it. the media, government tell us a lot of things, they say that people have been to the moon, basically they say something will or has happened on a certain day. there are times they are wrong. so it doesn't matter what they say. the only way that you know the truth is if you do research, and not listen to what people say.

Blog 2: Summary and response to “Hype.

The article tells us that there is advertisement all over the place. back then there wasn't much advertisement because we didn't have much things to sell. when ever you are awake there is advertisement around you, it could be at anytime and we wont notice it .we are so used to seen the same things for example when you watch t.v listen to the radio, or even when you go on public transportation you see advertisement for shoes ,food, games, clothes. when you got sopping for food ,or you go get gas for your car, there is more advertisement to show you more items to buy and it keeps on going.
In my opinion i think that advertisement is like a chain because if you look at it this way when you go shopping at any store, that store has different brands of items. if you go to to sports authority you will see clothes shoes etc. of different brands then you will go looking for that one brand and then another and another, its kind of surprising but we are advertisement, we wear different brands on us like Jordan, Levi's, polo, north face. advertisement is all around us.

Blog 1: "how to do one thing at a time"

According to the author the article states that people who multi-task don't do a good job as the people who do one thing at a time. in the aticle it says " a group of students was asked to spend 30 minutes simutaneously copiling a music playlist ,chatting, and writing a short essay. a second group focused on each task individualy for 10 minutes each. afterward, they were given a memory test. then single-taskers did significantly better than their muilti-tasking peers." for the people who muilti-task ,their brain isnt able to process everything so that it comes out good, people who single task-have more of a chance to do better because their brain is able to focus on only one thing at a time.
For me personnaly i dont think that multi-tasking afffects my ability to do something because in some of my high school classes when im doing my work i listen to music ,when we have to share what wear i would remember. so i dont think that muilti-tasking is a bad thing for some people.
